Read below for lyrics. About the song...
I was sitting in a cafe one day, pretending to be reading a book, but eavesdropping on a conversation between 2 best friends. One friend was telling the other that he could no longer go on without telling his best female friend that he had been deeply in love with her for years. His worry was that if he confessed his love for her, she might not feel the same and it could ruin their great friendship should things get awkward. He asked his friend what he should do. His friend paused, looked at him, and said, "Bro, I don't think you should tell her. What if she doesn't love you back? It's too big of a risk". Deflated and looking as if he wanted his friend to give him permission to just go for it, he quietly agreed and said, "You're probably right. Who wants to ruin a friendship like that"? Honestly, I was stunned at his friend's advice and felt that perhaps she had been waiting for years for him to say something and that maybe, there could be a beautiful relationship waiting to happen on the other side of risk. When I look back today, I wish I would have interrupted that conversation and just told this guy to go for it and tell her. But, I kept to myself and never said anything. So, I wrote a song about these 2 friends, their conversation, and how I hope that if there's anyone else out there that is needing to share their love for someone but they're keeping it inside, this song will inspire them to open up and share something so important that it could be life-changing.
Song lyrics:
Treasures are meant for finding
But some treasures are never ever found at all
Like the one that I've been hiding
From you 'cause I don't know if it's reciprocal
So hold on
While my butterflies get the best for me
So hold on
While my ego starts unraveling
Chorus:
Inside of me
Inside of me
There's a secret that I'm keeping
Inside of me
Inside of me
There's a floodgate that ain't opening
Inside of me
Inside of me
There's a secret that I'm keeping
Inside of me
Inside of me
There's a volcano suppressing
Post chorus:
My feelings for you
Don't know what to do
I'm all out of love
And words aren't enough
So I'll sing to you
(singing)
You can't read my poker face
But it's time that I finally show my hand
And if you do not feel the same
I'll do my best to understand
So hold on
While my butterflies get the best of me
So hold on
While my ego starts unraveling
Chorus repeated
Post chorus repeated
